Navigation Skills12 January 2016
A fine weekend of weather, followed by a sunny Monday in the Pentlands and it looked good for some navigation fun on Tuesday !
Weather had other ideas. A low pressure system anchored itself to the north-east, suggesting improvement later in the day. Our group met in the meeting room above Craigdon Mountain Sports in the Pentland Outdoor Centre, where we got to know each other and worked through maps and compass. The weather outside was improving (woo-hoo) and tho initially I was predicting that we've have to more of the practical stuff inside, we managed to get outside just after having a quick lunch in the Apres Cafe.
Onto the Pentlands, the group got to grips with re-location, back-bearings, navigation order, the 4 'D's and much more. A fine was had by all with everyone learning loads and ending up with really mucky boots !
Our next navigation event is on 6 February, more details here : here.
