A' Chailleach appears rugged, its summit viewed from the north sitting above hidden Loch Toll an Lochain. This fine Munro and its neighbour Sgurr Breac sit at the western end of the Fannichs, slightly detached from the rest of the range.
The most accessible and easiest route up A' Chailleach begins from the roadside a few miles west of Braemore Junction. This route passes lovely Loch a' Bhraoin, involves a little rock-scrambling up Leitir Fhearna and leads onwards to Sgurr Breac.
With a bealach at around 550m separating A' Chailleach and Sgurr Breac from the other Fannich Munros, the route can be easily be extended eastwards, though this may end at the roadside several miles away from the start point.
A completely diffent and more gentle side to A' Chailleach's character can be discovered by approaching from the Nest of Fannich. To gain access to this, try cycling in along a private road that heads in from Lochluichart and travels above the northern bank of remote Loch Fannich.
