Am Bathach stands in a solitary position above the Cluanie Inn and the western end of Loch Cluanie. For such a diminutive hill surrounded by far higher mountains, the view from Am Bathach's crest and summit over Loch Cluanie to Beinn Loinne is rather impressive.
The route from the western end up Am Bathach is straightforward following a faint path on the hill's southern shoulder all the way to the summit.
Am Bathach lies to the south of Bealach a' Choinich, the col that separates it from the peaks in Kintail's Brothers. With a mere drop of 200m to this col, most hillwalkers are likely to opt to continue onwards from Am Bathach to bag other hills using paths that travel along mountain crests.
