Unlike other Munros on the South Glen Shiel Ridge, the summit of Sgurr an Doire Leathain is bypassed by the line of old iron posts and wall remnants, requiring hillwalkers to make a short detour along a flat, grassy spur to gain the cairn on the highest point - possibly confusing in mist.
Many choose to bag this Munro as part of a South Glen Shiel Ridge traverse, which can be divided into shorter sections. Sgurr an Doire Leathain lies in the ridge's western section, with the easiest access from Glen Shiel via the long shoulder of Druim Thollaidh leading up to the nearby minor peak of Sgurr Coire na Feinne.
