Sgurr an Utha is a shy Corbett, for the most part hidden from roadside view, sitting behind other lower hillsides. Along with its slighly lower neighbour, Fraoch-bheinn, these hills form a long crest running westwards from Glen Finnan that overlooks the rugged terrain and the wild lands of Coal-Ghleann and surrounding Loch Beoraid.

Although Sgurr an Utha lies close to Sgurr nan Coireachan and the other peaks by Glenfinnan, it is just that little bit awkwardly placed to include in a hike with these higher hills.

The most accessible route up Sgurr an Utha begins from the roadside around 3km west of the hamlet of Glenfinnan, where an estate track heads northwards through forestry and climbs up to a height of 400m.

Estate tracks lead up the lower slopes of Fraoch-bheinn and Sgurr an Utha, above which grass-covered hillsides littered with rocky outcrops are climbed to reach summit crests with fine views of Morar and Glenfinnan.
