Stob Coire a' Chearcaill is the high point on a long 'whale-backed' Corbett hill to the south of Loch Eil and west of Fort William and Loch Linnhe. Its grassy north-facing slopes rise gently from Loch Eil contrasting with steeper and rougher slopes to the south and east.
With the A861 road travelling around the hill, various approaches can be made up Stob Coire a' Chearcaill.
To the north-east an estate track travels from Blaich up to around 480m from where a delightful hike along Braigh Bhlaich leads onto Stob Coire a' Chearcaill's summit.
A more direct approach heads in from Duisky to the north of Stob Coire a' Chearcaill, though the estate track ends at a height of 200m, leaving over 500m to climb up pathless heather and grass covered hillsides.
