The long ridge of The Fara and Meall Cruaidh overlook forests on the section of Loch Ericht from Dalwhinnie to Ben Alder Lodge. With its highest point at 911m, the The Fara is just a shade under Munro height and one of the higher Corbetts, its isolated location giving fine views from its huge summit cairn.
If cycling into Alder Forest, perhaps aiming for bigger prizes, a stop-off on the shores of Loch Ericht just beyond Ben Alder Estate gatehouse could see a quick up-and-down following a fire break and fence-line to the summit.
A much finer option would be savour the expansive views using estate tracks of Loch Ericht Forest and the northern crests of the hill to make a circular route starting from just outside of Dalwhinnie.
