Halfway between Biggar and Peebles is the picturesque village of Broughton surrounded by farmlands and forestry, above which stand grass and heather clad rolling hills with well-defined crests. The most southerly summit on this is Trahenna Hill overlooking the River Tweed.
The most pleasant approach up Trahenna Hill begins by Shepherds Cottage on the John Buchan Way, just outside Broughton Village.
Trahenna Hill is also the last summit on the Two Breweries Hill Race, which runs over the hills south of Peebles from Traquair to Broughton and takes place in September (see this page on Scottish Hill Runners).
