Standing above the head of Glen Kingie, Sgurr an Fhuarain is a pyramidical hill with a long grass-covered ridge connecting it to its higher neighbour Sgurr Mor
Most hillwalkers will climb Sgurr an Fhuarain with its Munro neighbour Sgurr Mor from Glen Dessarry to the south. From this direction there are also options to add in another peak or two, Sgurr Cos na Breachd-laoidh and Fraoch Bheinn being the most obvious.
A longer and more interesting approach heads in from Glen Kingie biking along a forest track to the foot of the coire between Gairich and Sgurr an Fhuarain, from where stalkers paths travel up much of the hillsides.
An epic challenge traversing Sgurr an Fhuarain and the peaks and ridges of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart while hiking a circular route around Loch Quoich makes for a long day - or two if you fancy a bivvi !
