Sgùrr a’ Chaorainn is a rugged Fiona hill rising in the heart of Ardgour above Glen Gour and the head of the Stronian River. It forms a long ridge with its Corbett neighbour Beinn na h-Uamha, just a metre higher, where a grassy crest is dotted with rocky knolls and small lochans.
Approaches can be made from both Glen Gour and Glen Scaddle, each following good estate tracks that are suitable for cycling most of the way in. From Glen Gour the route leads to a river crossing below the hill before climbing grassy and rocky slopes to the ridge. From Glen Scaddle the approach is longer but gives the option of extending the outing to include neighbouring summits such as Sgùrr Dhomhnuill and Càrn na Nathrach, making for a demanding but rewarding traverse.
